Background:
After having
1) having an International Development Master Degree,
2) practical training internationally by the most international famous participatory methods practitioners, and
3) 15 years experience with International NGOs in Yemen with Oxfam being the last one.
I felt I need to change and get back more exciting experience through different work environment: so
1- During last year I have been overloaded with many consultancy task with different international NGOs, SFD, and European Commision on various community issues (developing community programmes, baselines, writing proposals, training on participatory methodologies, conducting studies either to evaluate programmes, or to study an issue either in specific location or national wide, etc.).To many sharing and learning opportunities and "better" economic situation and more nomination by different practitioners as one of the best local community development experts and qualitative researcher experts in the country.
2. I have also been leading in the process of establishing "Grassroots - UP" foundation to help others in dealing with the challenges of conducting real participatory and sustainable community programmes.
My CONCERN:
My motivation is to be the best local leading individual in the country in " sustainable and participatory community development".
HOWEVER, With all the above mentioned experience and privilege with my previous employers, I keep having the feeling that my experience in community work have been limited to Non-Profit International NGO. I still feel there is something missing in my experience, in which I need more knowledge and hands-on experience.
What ??
I really want to enrich my experience by understanding and applying the INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES in the community work WITHIN THE SCOPE OF WORK OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR, especially the oil and gas companies.
YOUR ADVICE??
You know that reading alone is not enough on this issues. I really want to live the experience. I am open to work as a volunteer for few months from time to time with one of the available (OIL AND GAS) companies in Yemen. OR to go for a short fix-term work.
But
1) Is this accepted by such private companies in Yemen?
If Yes:
2) Which one you prefer to approach? and What is the best way to approach them and avoid any misunderstanding due to limited experience in voluntary work in Yemen.
I will be so thankful if you can help me reducing this gap in my experience and really appreciate your cooperation and feedback.
