Sustainable Finance for Climate & Social Impact

Through Sustainable Finance a growing number of companies around the world are investing in projects with intentional positive climate and social impacts. Sustainable Finance volumes have increased significantly over the past five years. In 2021 alone investors poured $1.6 trillion into green and social bonds/loans, along with sustainability-linked finance products.

But is this money going where it’s needed most? And are these climate commitments credible? Only 5 percent of this financing reaches emerging markets—places most in need of climate-smart and inclusive growth. Out of 417 companies studied by The Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit and Oxford Net Zero, only 11 had robust net-zero plans.
